Client situations

Situations like yours, and how the plan came together.

What people came with, what they asked, and what the plan set out. No names, and no returns: just how it’s put together.

These are illustrations, drawn from the kinds of situations we work with. Details are changed and combined, and no one is named. They show how a plan is put together, not how it performed: we don’t show returns, and they are not testimonials.

Retirement Income

“I’m retiring, or already retired”

Retiring soon, or already retired, with money in FDs

Retired, with everything in FDs

A retired schoolteacher, 64, near Guntur

Savings of a little under a crore, almost all in FDs, renewed each year at whatever the bank offered. The interest no longer covered the household’s expenses, and each renewal paid a little less.

What they asked

  • “How much can I take each month without running out?”
  • “What happens to my income if markets fall?”

What the plan set out

  • Three years of withdrawals kept in the Senior Citizens’ Savings Scheme and FDs, outside the market.
  • The rest in funds chosen after a suitability check, held in her own name.
  • A monthly withdrawal set from her own numbers, raised every April with prices.
  • In a good year the funds top the three-year bucket back up; in a bad year they are left alone.

Now: One monthly amount, written down, that rises each April. A review every year, with her son on the call.

Retiring in two years, a lump sum coming

A bank officer, 58, in Vijayawada

Gratuity, PF and leave encashment due at retirement, adding up to more than he had ever held at once. Several people already had a product ready for it.

What they asked

  • “What should be decided before the money arrives?”
  • “How do my wife and I keep an income that rises with prices?”

What the plan set out

  • The split decided in advance: what goes to the Senior Citizens’ Savings Scheme and FDs for the first three years, and what is invested for later.
  • The invested part moved in stages from a liquid fund over several months, rather than on one day.
  • Both spouses’ names, nominations and access sorted before retirement, not after.

Now: When the money arrived, it went where the plan said within the week. The first monthly withdrawal started the month after.

Corporate Treasury

Margin FDs nobody had looked at in years

A family-run manufacturing company near Mangalagiri

Bank guarantee and LC limits backed by FDs held as margin, some of them placed years earlier and renewed automatically. The interest was taxed every year, and nobody was sure how much of the cash was really needed.

What they asked

  • “Will this upset our banker or our limits?”
  • “How much of this cash do we actually need, and when?”

What the plan set out

  • A 90-day map of the cash the business needs, worked out with the company’s CA.
  • Questions put to the bank in writing first: lien on fund units, haircuts, and how long a substitution takes.
  • Cash not needed for 90 days moved, after a board resolution, into liquid and money market funds in the company’s name.

Now: Limits and pricing unchanged. The cash map is updated each quarter, before advance tax dates.

Big receipts at harvest, payments all year

An agri-trading partnership in the Guntur district

Large receipts in a few weeks after each harvest, then payments to farmers, transporters and the tax department spread over months. The surplus sat in a current account between them.

What they asked

  • “Where does money go that we need back in days, weeks or months?”
  • “Can we get it back in time for each payment?”

What the plan set out

  • A calendar of the year’s known payments, built with the partners.
  • Money needed within days in an overnight fund, within weeks in a liquid fund, and within months in a money market fund.
  • Redemptions placed a few working days ahead of each payment date, in the firm’s own name.

Now: The calendar is redrawn after every harvest. The current account holds what’s needed this week, not this season.

Two children, two education goals

A doctor couple in their late thirties, Guntur

Two children, aged 6 and 9, and savings spread across an endowment policy, an RD and a few funds bought at different times, without a target for any of them.

What they asked

  • “What will each child’s education actually cost?”
  • “How much do we put away for each, every month?”

What the plan set out

  • Each goal costed on its own, in the year it is needed, with fees rising faster than general prices.
  • One SIP for each child, with its own date, tested at a lower return as well as past ones.
  • Each goal moved, step by step, into steadier funds as its date gets close.

Now: Two monthly amounts, one per child, raised a little each year with their income. A yearly review against both dates.

Started saving for retirement late

A software engineer, 41, in Hyderabad

A good salary, most savings in a bank account, and a handful of shares bought on tips. Retirement felt far away until a colleague retired early.

What they asked

  • “Is it too late to catch up?”
  • “How much a month, and for how long?”

What the plan set out

  • Six months of expenses first, in a liquid fund, kept apart from everything else.
  • The retirement number worked out from today’s expenses, and a monthly SIP towards it.
  • The SIP raised every year with salary, so the monthly amount starts manageable.

Now: A buffer in place, one retirement SIP running, and a yearly check of where it stands against the number.
