What it checks

Eight basics, and why each matters.

  1. Knowing what you spend

Every number in a retirement plan starts from what you spend. Guess it wrong and everything after it is wrong too.

  2. How much is saved

Years of expenses saved is a rough yardstick, judged against how far you are from retiring: what’s fine at 40 is short at 58.

  3. Where it sits

Money all in deposits falls behind prices over a long retirement; money all in shares can fall just when you need it.

  4. The next three years

Keeping the next three years out of the market means a bad year never forces you to sell at a low.

  5. An emergency fund

A buffer you can reach in days keeps surprises from landing on your retirement savings.

  6. Health cover

Hospital bills are the commonest way a plan breaks, and cover from work usually ends with the job.

  7. A plan for monthly income

Savings aren’t an income until you know how much they can pay each month, rising with prices, and for how long.

  8. A yearly look

Plans drift as markets and lives move. A yearly look puts them back.

What is a retirement readiness check?
A quick look at the basics a retirement plan rests on: knowing what you spend, how much is saved for your stage of life, where it sits, a buffer for emergencies and health, and a plan for turning savings into a monthly income. It shows the gaps, not a forecast.
How is the score worked out?
Each answer earns points, some judged against your stage of life (years of expenses saved, and the mix of deposits and shares). The score is your points as a share of the most you could have scored, out of 100. The three areas with the lowest share are where to start.
Is this advice?
No. It is general information on the basics, not a recommendation or a risk profile. What suits you depends on your full position, which we go through in a conversation, with a suitability check before anything is invested.
Is what I enter stored?
No. The quiz runs in your browser. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send your answers to us with the form at the end.
